JH Clark and sons was established in Rawmarsh, Rotherham in 1784. Since that time the business has passed from father to son, spanning over nine generations.

Originally the business was founded by Joshua H Clark; a joiner, carpenter and wheelwright who handmade coffins. The natural progression was to provide the complete funeral service leaving customers with a professional and dignified service for their loved ones.

Over the years the business gradually expanded buying some of the earliest motorised vehicles in the Rotherham area, in the early part of the 20th century. JH Clark & Sons now serves all areas of Rotherham which led us to acquire a second premises in Thurcroft, Rotherham in 2000.

JH Clark and sons is still owned and managed by the Clark family, from the original stone built premises which the business was founded and is thought to be one of the oldest surviving independent funeral directors in the UK.

Mr Clark Snr and his two sons, have followed in their Father and Grandfather’s footsteps, to provide a personal, supportive and caring service for many bereaved families of Rawmarsh and the surrounding areas. Johns Funeral service in Thurcroft is run in exactly the same way, by the same family members, ensuring all previous traditions and respect is maintained in this long standing service.
